Radiation System
Nuclear science is built on a powerful radiation system reflecting the mechanics of real life. This offers a dynamic gameplay experience and interesting interactions in the mod.
The system works by tracking radioactive materials and sources on the map. Based on the sources, a radiation map for the block will be constructed. This value decreases with distance and can be blocked by walls. There is the ability to utilize interactions with the environment and protective systems.
Radioactive Material
Nuclear science has a comprehensive system of materials for tracking radiation. This system allows radioactive materials to be placed anywhere on the map. It includes blocks, elements, and objects based on interactions with the environment.
Reactors
Unlike other mods, nuclear science focuses on free-form reactor designs. Each block has its purpose and place in the reactor. This allows the player to build their reactor in any way. The uniqueness of the reactors lies in the fact that multi-blocks are not involved in the process. This means that a reactor is not just one big machine but a series of small systems. Each system interacts with the next system and forms a behavior that can be utilized.
Thermal System
To better support creative building reactors, they do not directly affect the environment. Instead, heat is released through the thermal system into the world. This allows reactors to be programs of very simple nature. Without the need to check all blocks in the area or understand the environment.
A bonus to this is that heat can be cached to reduce the load on the CPU. Additionally, heat can be transferred through the environment in a thread-like manner to reduce latency. In doing so, ensure the environment creates effects such as melting blocks, steam, and other cool mechanics.
Steam System
With the thermal system, any heat source can generate steam. All that is required is to heat water to a specified energy level. Once this is done, steam will slowly accumulate. This means that any mod can interact with the system. Also, use steam to power machines that support liquid. This includes mods such as Railcraft, Thermal Expansion, IC2, and Greg Tech. In addition to this, the mod provides turbines for directly converting steam into energy.
